Your Local Legends

Introducing Your Local Legend - Katie Ward, resident Marketing guru and Events Coordinator at North Sydney Council. Katie loves bringing joy to the people in North Sydney, you'll often find her doing the chicken dance at NTH SYD live events.

Here's a little more about Katie ...

Q) What do you love the most about your job?
My role as marketing and event officer for the NTH SYD program involves planning events, producing activations and collaborating with local businesses to enhance the North Sydney CBD.  I’ve been involved in so many great projects over the years including creating our Lunch Club series, working with local community groups to create art installations such as The Refuse of Coral and collaborating with the team at Greenwood Plaza and Hotel to bring the Snow Week events to North Sydney.  I love that my job involves creativity, I get a real buzz out of coming up with events and placemaking ideas for the North Sydney CBD and I love that the projects I work on bring joy to the people that live and work in this area.

Q) If you could invite any 3 people to dinner who would they be?
I love to be entertained by smart, informed and funny people so I'd have to go with Tina Fey, Ricky Gervais and Michael McIntyre.

Q) What is the first thing you will do when lockdown ends?
Sprint to the hair salon!

Q) What TV shows, movies, podcasts or books have you watched/listened to/read during lockdown?
I've been re-watching some of my favourite TV shows of all time - 30 Rock and Parks & Recreation.  I've also discovered some great documentaries including Stan's 'The Biggest Little Farm.'

Q) Which song gets you on the dance floor?
It doesn't take much to get me on the dancefloor! My colleagues will back me up - I love to dance and will pretty much dance to anything, even the chicken dance!

Q) If you had a super power what would it be?
The power to rid the world of Covid-19.

Q) Which celebrity would you love to meet? OR If you could sit next to anyone on a plane, who would you choose?
I would love to meet Jamie Oliver, he’s my favourite chef and as a big food lover and a fellow Brit we would have a lot to talk about.  I love his style of cooking but I also love that he has championed so many excellent social causes like improving animal welfare and nutrition for children through his school dinner program.

Q) What is the go-to thing you order for the table?
Team fries - always!

Q) If you could only eat one food for the rest of your life, what would you choose?
Potatoes and then I'd have them in every available form - chips, roasted, rostis, hash browns, sauteed, mashed, baked.  I really like potatoes - can you tell?

Q) What is the weirdest thing you've eaten?
My husband's mashed potatoes.  It wasn't good.

Q) Where is your favourite spot in North Sydney?
There are so many nice spots, so I'm going to say on the harbour, on a sailing boat, cruising past the amazing North Sydney harbour foreshore.
