Your Local Legends

northsider is an independent quarterly ‘free-mium’ magazine created for locals, by two locals, Anna Gordon and Belinda Spillane. As well as northsider magazine, the pair run a local content agency, contented media, looking after social media, marketing and custom publishing for a number of national brands.

Here's a little more about Anna & Belinda ...

Q) What do you love the most about your job and business?
We love working together! Before contented media, we worked with each other on national magazines and went out on our own five years ago. Our agency is all things social, digital, copy and design but we really missed working with print so we started northsider three years ago. We wanted to connect with the local community and celebrate the very special area we’re both lucky enough to live and work in. It’s a pleasure to meet so many people and share their stories.

We love that we can help support the community and that northsider is a publication that’s as vibrant and beautiful as the area and the people who live and work here.

Q) How can customers support your business?
Follow northsider on social media @northsidersydney and enter our comps, tag us in your pics and give us a like or two! Grab a copy of the magazine when you see it and let us know what you’d love to read about next. We LOVE hearing from readers. As an independent, free magazine that champions all things community, we cover our print costs thanks to our amazing advertisers – so let us know if you’d like to see your business in print and seen by over 15,000 locals.

Q) Is there something about your store / product that may be a surprise?
People are always surprised to find out that it’s just the two of us full time. We run our content agency day to day and then we also do everything on the magazine, from design, artwork and photography to writing, editing, ad sales, social media and even pounding the pavement delivering it to local letterboxes. It’s a real passion project.

Q) What TV shows, movies, podcasts or books have you watched/listened to/read during lockdown?

We both binged Mare of Easttown and Anna devoted way too much time to Love Island UK!

Q) Who’s the most famous celeb you have met?
Anna: I was lucky enough to meet one of my fave celebs when the author Jackie Collins was visiting our office. I accosted her in reception – I couldn’t help myself! – and she was every bit as fabulous as I’d hoped.
Bel: I met and directed Chris Hemsworth at a photo shoot… get in line ladies!

Q) What’s your order for the table
Anna: Fries and bottle of pink for sharing with friends.
Bel: Cheeeeese!

Q) What would be your last meal?
Anna: See above!
Bel: Mum’s Sunday Roast

Q) If you had a superpower, what would it be?
Anna: The ability to freeze time so deadline day isn’t as scary.
Bel: Time travel – I would love to go back and live in this area 60 years ago!

Q) Which song gets you on the dance floor?
Anna: Anything 80s
Bel: 80s and 90s old school classics

Q) Where is your favourite spot in North Sydney?

Belinda: As a McMahons Point local for over 20 years, anywhere in this area is my favourite! If I really had to choose, then North Sydney Oval on a sunny day cheering on Norths.
Anna: Lavender Bay and Wendy Whiteley’s Secret Garden are both very special.

Q) Is there anything you would love to share?
It’s northsider’s third birthday this year and we’re working on a few new projects to encourage everyone to get back out in the community and support local after lockdown (in a Covid safe way of course). Watch this space!
